I know it can be hard to get a feeling for what life is really like in another county, so I've been thinking it would be a good idea to start posting some of the things that are different about the Philippines compared to the US. Hopefully, little by little it will paint a picture of what it's like to live here.
So, for the first installment, Hot Water:
In the Philippines there is no hot running water. The only place in the house you have hot water is in the showers where small electric water heaters heat the water just before it hits the shower head. So instead of having a hot and cold handle the temperature is controlled by a balance of how high you turn the heater up and how much water you have flowing through the shower head.
